Why therapists use it

Because every client walks in differently.

Some clients arrive ready to talk. Others need a little time. Some find it easier to share while doing something, while others are perfectly comfortable sitting down and jumping into a conversation.

Opening Play gives therapists more ways to meet clients in those different moments.

When you’re still building rapport

Start with a game, something creative or a little friendly competition. Give your client a chance to get comfortable and show more of their personality, without expecting them to share something personal right away.

When you hear “I don’t know”

Sometimes another question isn’t what the moment needs. A quick game, a choice between activities or a visual check-in can offer a different way to take part.

When you’re meeting over telehealth

Make screen sharing part of the experience, not just a way to see each other. Interactive games give you both something to watch, react to and enjoy together.

When you’re ready to go deeper

Move from play into reflection when it fits. Session Enhancements offer creative ways to explore feelings, perspectives, choices and experiences, without another worksheet or a long list of questions.

More than a game library

Sometimes the game is enough. Sometimes it opens a door.

Opening Play was built around a simple idea: play can be valuable in its own right, and it can also create natural opportunities for meaningful conversation.

That’s why every game includes a practitioner Playbook, with moments worth noticing, questions you might ask, ways to adapt the activity and ideas for where the experience could lead.

Maybe a client explains an unexpected strategy. Maybe something funny happens that you both remember. Maybe a choice made during a game opens a natural conversation about flexibility, decision-making or something else that matters to the client. You decide whether to explore that moment, return to it later or simply enjoy the game.

Opening Play gives you possibilities. Your expertise guides the session.

Privacy

Your client’s experience stays in the session.

Privacy matters, especially when you’re working with young clients and discussing personal experiences. Opening Play is designed for practitioner-led sessions, and clients never need to create an account.

Client names and answers are optional, and session responses are not saved to Opening Play’s servers. The games don’t use AI to analyze client responses. You can focus on the interaction without building a permanent record of what your client says or does during an activity.

Practitioners remain responsible for following their own professional privacy requirements and organizational policies.

Works wherever you meet

In person, over video or wherever your sessions happen.

Opening Play runs in a web browser, with nothing to install. Use it on a shared screen during telehealth, alongside a client in your office or in another setting that fits your work.

You choose the games, check-ins and Session Enhancements. Your client doesn’t need a separate account to take part.
